Owl Canyon Gliderport, June 26, 1998. Wind interrupted flight operations today, resulting in only 32 sorties. Conservative wind limits are imposed during the CAP Glider Academies. Maximum cross wind component allowed is 10 knots. Maximum overall wind allowed is 20 knots. Although experienced soaring pilots can safely deal with higher winds, adhering to strict limits during the encampments has proven to be a successful safety strategy and takes elements of improper assessment of conditions out of the picture.
